However, to enjoy the excellent aesthetic of this material for a longer period, it's essential to properly care for the alcantara surface. Much like other furnishings with plush upholstery, poufs made from alcantara also require systematic cleaning and maintenance. It's worth noting that keeping alcantara in pristine condition for an extended time isn't a great challenge, which is precisely why this material enjoys considerable popularity when it comes to furniture or accessories, such as bean bag chairs or footstools. So how should one care for them?
Soft-to-the-touch plush poufs – what should proper alcantara cleaning look like?
The advantage of poufs made from alcantara is that they're sturdy and durable, provided they're properly and consistently maintained. Long-lasting and trouble-free use can be ensured through cleaning and maintaining plush surfaces using appropriate products, which fortunately don't cost much. Minor marks on the surface of this material aren't a major problem, provided they're removed relatively quickly and in the proper manner. Fortunately, neither cleaning nor maintaining alcantara presents any significant difficulties, and the process itself takes literally just a few minutes. To remove stains, simply reach for a soft, delicate cloth and water. It's crucial not to dampen the cloth too much, as excessive moisture can actually cause the stain to penetrate even deeper into the plush. It's sufficient to moisten the cloth, then clean the soiled surface with quick, short movements. However, one mustn't rub too vigorously, as this can lead to the material becoming matted. If the beanbag is dusty, you can wipe its surface with a dampened white cotton cloth to avoid accidentally discolouring the alcantara. Finally, it's worth gently combing through the plush whilst damp, then leaving it to dry completely. It's very important not to dry the plush in direct sunlight, which can result in the material becoming stiff.
If it's possible to remove the alcantara cover, as is the case with bean bag chairs equipped with an additional inner liner containing the filling, then after a prolonged period of use it's recommended to wash it at approximately 30°C using a gentle detergent. In the case of Velcro fastenings, it's necessary to secure them with tape to prevent damage to the material. However, alcantara must not be spin-dried. Bleaching alcantara with chlorine is also prohibited.
What else is worth knowing?
After cleaning an alcantara pouf, it's advisable to treat it with a special plush fabric protector. This will reduce the risk of future staining and matting of the material. However, if knots and felted areas do appear, one should acquire a sanding pad, with which they can be removed. Meanwhile, any pilling that develops can be carefully shaved off with a razor. Thus, this is a material that doesn't require significant financial investment to maintain it in perfect condition. If we opt for armchairs, sofas, or the increasingly popular alcantara poufs, we certainly won't be disappointed. It's precisely for this reason that bean bag chairs and various other forms of poufs enjoy enormous popularity. There's nothing more pleasant than a comfortable rest after a hard day on a pouf made from the wonderfully soft-to-the-touch and incredibly supple alcantara.
